Hello everyone, my name is Sarah Profeta, and I have attended Queens College since freshman year. I majored in Sociology and of course, education because I love children. I like to see them grow, progress and achieve their goals. If I could be a part of that achievement, then my day goes that much better. I am currently student teaching at the Flushing Manor school, P.S. 184 in Whitestone in a 5th grade class. This is the first time I am with an older grade because I ususally am with younger kids. I did my 100 hours as a second grade catholic school teacher and student taught in a 2nd grade class last semester as well. So this is why my comfot zone is with the little ones. This is a new experience for me.
Besides working in a catholic school as a substitute teacher and having my own class, I also babysit my friends children, cousins and neighbors since I was old enough to care for them. I also loved to help these kidswith their homework or anything they needed such as advice about life situtaions and dealing with parents. This is where my passion for helping others developed and hopefully will blossom when I become a real teacher.
I have always loved to dance and anyone who hangs around me knows that when a song comes on, I cant help myself to move to the beat. I used to take dance classes but I never followed through with it as the years passed. In the winter ever since i was 5 years old I go skiing with my dad, and just recently I learned to snowboard so now I have an option with this winter what I want to do. My sister is my best friend and we never fight. If we do, it lasts about 10 mintues and it probably has to do with clothing, a ride somewhere, or something insignificant. She left for college and I am miss her more than words can explain, but this will help us both to mature and become the women we want to be. Im finally going to get my passport this month and when I do, traveling will be the next thing on my bucket list because the world we live in is a beautiful place if you really look at it, and my goal is to see this beauty, but not from photographs.
